We are wired for spiritual connection — it is natural for us as human beings to want to listen to and feel our soul, nurture our spirit, and connection with our mind and bodies.
In this day and age, there is no shortage of spiritual practices. Sometimes, it can even feel as though there are too many practices, making it difficult to keep up. Although many of these practices are beneficial, they can be time consuming, and sometimes even daunting to try and incorporate in everyday life.
I have found these 3, simple practices to be most effective and time efficient in helping me connect with my soul on a daily basis.
Dance has become one of my most sacred daily practices and the best part about it is that it can be done at any time of day and only takes about 3 minutes.
I usually do this practice on my break from work, which typically happens around 11am. I’ll find some space in another room of the house, put on my favorite playlist, close my eyes and hit shuffle (because, well, synchronicity). Then, I’ll tune into my soul and allow it to move my body in whichever way feels right.
This practice immediately takes me out of my head, and into my heart and soul, expending any excess mental energy I had been carrying around throughout the morning.
2. Hands on the Earth
I started this practice during the pandemic and it has been a game changer for my morning routine. The first thing I do when I wake up is step outside, walk over to the patch of grass that sits right outside my door, and place my hands in the soil. I take a deep breath in, and a deep breath out.
I imagine any negative energy within me — any worries, anxieties, or frustrations, leaving my body in the form of a dark gray, dusty light and slowly dissipating as they meet the Earth’s surface.
It’s a simple practice, but it is intentional and deeply grounding, which sets the tone for how the rest of my morning will go.
3. Act of Kindness, with Intention
Helping others is truly one of the most spiritual practices we can do, but only when we have the right intention.
This practice can be as simple as filling up someone’s glass with water or offering them a compliment. Before deciding what to do, I always ask myself why I’m doing it. Do I want to highlight a trait that I admire in one of my friends or family members? Do I want to make their day a little less stressful for them? Why is it important that I do?
Thinking about the why, before thinking about the what makes the act of kindness more meaningful, both for the giver, and for the receiver.
