Your attention IS you. You quite literally ARE where you put your attention. So what are you attending you? What are you?
The amazing part about this is that we get to choose. Where we place our attention is where we spend our lives. It’s where and how we live our lives. Focus on love? Focus on connection? Focus on peace and unity and nature? You will find a surplus of those things in your life.
Focus on what’s lacking? What’s missing? What’s wrong? You will find a surplus of those things in your life, too.
I have to remind myself of this, because it’s too easy to forget. I notice myself oftentimes, dwelling in the past, the negativity, the doubts, the what if’s. I am creating a world that won’t breed good results. It is a pattern, a habit and one that I am capable of overcoming. I can see the path, and it’s quite easy but it also takes a lot of effort. It is something worth working towards. The beauty is truly all around us. The love is truly in everything and everyone, all the time. If you look past your own desires and wants and immediate needs, you will remember and see that it’s been there all along.
The thing I don’t like about this is that when I am brewing in negativity, I think there is something wrong about the way I’m going about things. I think, “I’m just not trying hard enough” or, “I am slacking”. I get down on myself and fail to recognize that, “oh, here’s just another thought” “here’s where your attention is now” Sometimes I forget to just see it how it is and remember that it’s not so much a big deal, but a continual pattern I need to train. Remember, remember, remember. It’s a constant. Perhaps the only one in my life. Return to the now. Return your focus.
The benefits are clear. I get everything I put out, so it’s not that I don’t understand the benefits. It’s not that I don’t know how to do what’s right for me. It’s that I forget. It’s that my thoughts and feelings are so convincing and oftentimes, feels as though they are out of my control. As though they happen to me, rather than me being the one to create it. It’s how we are wired, I suppose. So what I continue striving for is the ability to remember, to create. To enrich my mind so that I can let the light and beauty breath into the rest of my days, making it easier and more peaceful to live in harmony, and in love.
