No, I’m not talking about male versus female.
I’m talking about masculine versus feminine, powerful energies which we all possess. In a perfect world, everyone’s masculine and feminine energies are completely in balance — 50% feminine, 50% masculine. Unfortunately, this is not usually the case.
Character traits associated with feminine energy: sensitivity, expressiveness, empathy, affection, tenderness, warmth
Character traits associated with masculine energy: independence, strength, courage, leadership, assertiveness
Think about your habits as a young child. Did they lean more masculine or feminine? Think about your habits now. Do they lean more masculine or feminine?
If the answers you shared above are completely different, what changed?
When thinking about how these two energies show up in my life, things clicked. As a child, I lead almost completely with feminine energy — affection and nurture were my natural tendencies. Over the past few years, however, I’ve demonstrated more masculine traits — order, direction, and control were my primary ways of being and working in the world.
I knew things weren’t aligning because I witnessed symptoms of anxiety, restlessness, and negative thoughts — the list goes on. I wasn’t living from an authentic place, and it showed. Looking back, it is clear that I was distant from myself, and it forced me to ask myself WHY.
The path of discovering WHY is challenging, and oftentimes, a very long one. What happened that forced me out of my natural tendencies, and ultimately, out of my natural self?
I’m still in the process of uncovering this, but the realization that things were out of alignment helped me to see and act more consciously. Rather than going with the wind, I started taking a step back, seeing the wind, and asking myself which way I wanted to sway.
As a result, I’ve started to reconnect with my feminine traits and naturally, have witnessed my anxiety, restlessness and negative thoughts decrease. Slowly but surely, my masculine and feminine energies are coming into alignment, and my physical, emotional and spiritual health is flourishing.
