Does discipline create freedom? Or does freedom create freedom?

A lot of preachers, teachers, and “gurus” alike have been adamant about this idea of discipline and how it’s benefitted their life in these astronomical ways.

They say discipline is what leads good results and ultimately, a better more efficient life. They talk about these rigid schedule as if they are trophy worthy. They direct their thoughts in a way that is militant like.

This is freedom? This is what I have to do in order to be free? Be NOT free?

Why wouldn’t freedom create freedom?

Why wouldn’t allowing yourself the freedom of doing, behaving, eating and moving be the thing that guides us to freedom?

Why wouldn’t we chose to act in a way that is surrendering to something greater than ourselves, as opposed to forcing a mind and bodies onto something it might not even enjoy? And that might not even be meant for us?

Our body and minds have an intelligence beyond our conscious knowing. If we let them relax, be free, move how they want, and speak how they want, we might actually understand ourselves in a more intimate way.

When I think about discipline, it just makes me crave the things I CAN’T do.

So instead I allow myself — every part of myself — to just be and do and move and rest and sit in exactly the way it wants to. This to me is freedom.
