Our society is so concerned with “optimizing”… time, business, money. It’s all about “hacking” the system to get the more results, more wins, more recognition.
You’d think we’d have cracked the code by now, but no, we’re still living in a society where people are being treated like robots — long hours, little money, poor healthcare, and people who are faced with crippling mental illness.
We need to stop acting like this is normal.
More importantly, though, we need to start optimizing differently.
We need to optimize energy.
By energy, I don’t mean the number of hours in a workday, I mean ENERGY — that warm feeling you get in your soul when you greet a loved one, or that excited feeling you get when you master a new skill for the first time. That kind of energy.
We need to start working from the inside out, and not the outside in.
We need to live sustainably.
We need to live humanly.
You want better profit margins? Stop demanding more hours from your employees and start demanding more energy from them.
You want more business coming in each year? Start connecting, feeling, and urging to know what lights up your customers’ souls.
Replace the energy spent ruminating, doubting, and worrying, with energy that is worthwhile.
Start investing in people’s human-ness, and this opportunity to get to live and breathe and be on this precious earth, with a unique human experience, at this precious time.
In a world that is so seemingly focused on optimizing the exterior, we can choose to show up differently. We can choose us.
We can choose to show up in a way celebrates energy instead of pushing it to the back burner.
We can choose to light up our souls and bring that aliveness into the workplace.
We can choose to be us.
Our society has mastered “optimizing”, there’s no doubt about that.
Now it’s time to change what we’re optimizing.
