Pronouns

Let me preface this by saying that I completely respect anyone who chooses to proclaim their preferred pronouns. I like that we, as a society, are finally appreciating what it means to be human and acknowledging the fact that it doesn’t, and never did, fit into two categories.

But what does it mean to be a woman and what does it mean to be a man? You might have answers for this. You might say something like, “wears jewelry” or “likes sports”. If we continued to add to this list, I doubt anyone could meet a person who completely identified with one of these categories, and if they did, I would be concerned, quite frankly.

We as a society have created these notions of gender in our MINDS, out of THOUGHTS. That’s it. There are some differences in our body parts and the way it functions and that’s helpful to know, but that’s about it.

So instead of changing our pronouns, why can’t we just LIVE the way we want to live? Why can’t we challenge people’s notions of what it means to be a woman or a man without adding a label to it? What if we didn’t continue this vicious cycle of labeling ourselves in order to fit into a category that never even existed in the first place? Because, truth be told, I’d rather look at a mountain and appreciate its beauty in silence, rather than having someone explain to me the reasons of why it’s so beautiful. I don’t want their experience of it. I want my own. And there is more depth in silence.
