Resistance

“To offer no resistance to life is to be in a state of grace, ease and lightness.”

No resistance. At all.

What does this look like?

It means going to the grocery store and not even questioning whether to get the whole milk, the oat milk or the almond milk. Oh, and it also means not spending five minutes deciding which brand is best. I usually sit there, truly, for five minutes, sifting through the list of ingredients just to make sure it’s appropriate for my liking. It takes a while. I know, “it’s good my health”. But, here’s the thing — it’s not. When I’m spending so much time concerned with what I’m putting into my body, it does worse things for my body than what I’m actually putting into it — OKAY?

I’m sure you probably thought this story would be more profound than a grocery store visit, so I’m sorry to tell you that it’s not.

This is the reality — the aisle and me, everyday, for the rest of my life. I have to choose — do I get stressed about the products, or do I just move with ease?

When I think about no resistance to life, the grocery store is what comes up for me because, well, it’s not in the big moments that life happens, it’s in the small, tiny, consistent ones. The moments that I engage in day by day, week by week. That’s where my ‘habits’ formed, and that’s where they have to change.

I am practicing — moving lightly and gracefully down the aisles now, feeling a sense of joy that I am able to buy quality produce and food that supports my family.

I am practicing. — building a light, easy, and graceful life and I’m not doing it in those big moments, but in the small, everyday, grocery aisle moments.
