Tibetan Meditations

Preliminaries to meditation. This is a something I just learned about and is essential to Tibetan Buddhist meditations. Preliminaries prepare the meditation practitioner to experience deep insights and clarity in their formal practice.

The reason Buddhist monks do this is that it allows them to strengthen and stretch the mind before diving deep into single pointed concentration, or “Samatha” — kind of like free form gymnastics before moving to the balance beam.

When I’ve practiced this myself, I’ve felt energized, lighter, and more at peace. I felt a shift in my mind — from a rather grey state, to a light blue. I’ve continued to practice this and in doing so, have realized the immense benefits of sitting not only with a clear mind, but a positively charged one.
